Alternative College Credit Sources

1. Asynchronous online courses. Online courses through alternative credit sources like Study.comStraighterLine, and Sophia.org, which have been evaluated and recommended for credit by ACE, may be accepted as transfer credit to Servants University. These courses are asynchronous and allow students to log into the course space on their own time and from any location to complete their coursework. Prior approval is required.

    • Straighterline.com: Straighterline.com teaches general education courses and hundreds of introductory education courses that can be transferred to hundreds of Universities, including Servants University. With prior approval from an academic advisor at Servants University, our students may take general education courses through StraighterLine as well as certain undergraduate electives. The following courses, as well as others, can be taken through StraighterLine. Pre-approval is required.
      • Cultural Anthropology – ANTH101
      • English Composition I – See English courses here.
      • English Composition II
      • Introduction to Nutrition, See here. (SU equivalent MISS 322 Nourishing OVC to Health on the Mission Field)
      • Introduction to Psychology.
      • Early Childhood Development.
    • Study.com: Certain Study.com courses can be taken for credit at Servants University. The following courses can be taken from Study.com. Pre-approval is required.
    • Sophia.org: Courses that students may take.
      • Public Speaking
      • Developing Effective teams

2. Portfolio Assessment
Portfolio assessment allows students to earn credit for the college-level knowledge they may have acquired outside of the classroom as a result of work, training, or some other experiences and activities. Through this process, a student creates a portfolio that shows their mastery of a given subject.

3. Open Educational Resources/Courses
Open Educational Resources (OER) are free, self-study resources that students can use to study in a specific area. The Saylor Academy offers free online courses that students can take, which would count towards a degree at Servants University and other universities. Prior approval is required. OER courses require No textbooks or subscriptions. Many resources can be freely found online, including OER Commons. Some institutions, such as Thomas Edison State University, are using Saylor Academy material for entire degrees.
